BSI Engineering and Surveying Proves the Power of TrueView GO for As-Built Surveys

The Handheld LiDAR/SLAM Sensor Greatly Speeds Up the Surveying Workflow

At GeoCue, we’re excited to showcase how our technology is being used in the field—and when it comes to real-world impact, few examples demonstrate it better than BSI Engineering and Surveying’s recent As-Built sewer system project using the TrueView GO.

In a confined and potentially hazardous environment, BSI needed to collect detailed measurements of over a dozen manholes and underground structures to create precise, reliable As-Built documentation. Traditional survey methods, posed safety risks and consumed valuable time. That’s when BSI turned to the TrueView GO handheld LiDAR + SLAM scanner. Their success story is now available in our latest case study, which you can download here:

Why BSI Chose the TrueView GO

BSI Engineering and Surveying, based in southeast Alabama, provides comprehensive civil engineering and surveying services across the region. With a focus on accuracy, safety, and efficiency, the team is always looking for innovative technologies that deliver better outcomes for their clients—and safer, faster workflows for their crews.

When tasked with mapping sewer infrastructure for an As-Built Survey, the firm needed a solution that could:

  • Capture high-resolution 3D data
  • Enhance Safety Protocol
  • Produce CAD-ready deliverables
  • Ensure field and office efficiency

The TrueView GO checked every box.

How the TrueView GO Performed in the Field

BSI crews deployed the TrueView GO to scan all manhole locations and their internal structures—from above ground. This mobile mapping solution allowed them to walk around the project area and gather rich LiDAR data without entering a single confined space.

As they moved, the scanner’s onboard SLAM technology and GNSS RTK/PPK positioning ensured every coordinate was recorded accurately. The TrueView GO’s triple camera system also automatically colorized the point cloud, making it easier to visualize details and validate coverage in real time.

“The TrueView GO is a great tool for As-Built purposes because it speeds up the process and cuts out a lot of errors that could happen using traditional methods,” said Jon Hamm, PLS and Surveying Director at BSI. “We can scan each manhole, view detailed interiors in 3D, and get the data needed, faster than using traditional surveying methods.”

Faster Results, Safer Methods, Superior Accuracy

With the data collected, BSI used LP360 Land software to process the point clouds, perform QA/QC checks, and quickly export the data into CAD platforms. This streamlined workflow enabled the team to produce both 2D and 3D As-Built drawings with confidence and clarity.

The results speak for themselves:

  • Field time was significantly reduced
  • No team members needed to enter confined or hazardous environments
  • The quality of the deliverables improved, with rich 3D visualizations and accurate measurements

Why TrueView GO Is Ideal for As-Built Surveys

The BSI case study highlights what makes the TrueView GO such a powerful and flexible tool for As-Built documentation and beyond. Whether you’re working in construction, utilities, facility management, or civil infrastructure, the GO provides:

Survey-grade LiDAR performance in a handheld format

Hybrid GNSS + SLAM technology, enabling scans even with weak or no satellite coverage

Live visualization on a dedicated tablet, helping ensure full site coverage during collection

Loop-free path planning—no need to walk in circles or retrace your steps

Starting price of just $25,550, offering a fast ROI after only a few projects

Plus, LP360 Land software makes processing your point cloud data easy, accurate, and incredibly fast. With tools for colorization, classification, QA/QC, and deliverable export, LP360 ensures your office workflow is as efficient as your fieldwork.
