Learn more about the LP360 workflow to improve the quality of data collected with the DJI Zenmuse L1.
In this informative video below, Darrick Wagg, Vice President of Customer Success at GeoCue, demonstrates the workflow in LP360 to improve the data collected from the L1 sensor. Some of the steps he covers include how to:
- Upgrade LAS from 1.2 to 1.4
- Manage coordinate systems
- Adding GCPs for data QC
- Perform Strip Alignment for geometric correction
Processing L1 Data
The DJI Zenmuse L1 is a compact and easy-to-use LiDAR and photogrammetry solution for mapping and surveying. LP360 is a powerful 3D point cloud software solution that can help process data collected from the DJI Zenmuse L1 and make it better.
In the video demonstration, Darrick explains how LP360 can help streamline the workflow for processing data collected from the DJI Zenmuse L1.
The first step in the workflow is to import the data collected from the L1 into LP360. LP360 supports various data formats and provides a user-friendly interface that enables users to import data easily. The software can ingest the output of DJI Terra software, and LP360 offers tools make the data set more accurate.
The software helps the user select and manage the right coordinate system, in this case, Alabama 93 Alabama East. Once the coordinate system is verified, the user can import the files. LP360 can also add ancillary files to the data with the location and some checkpoints for quality control, which can be reviewed later in the workflow.
Separating Flight Lines
Once this process has completed, Darrick notes that flight lines have not been separated and have only been processed into a single strip; one of the limits of L1 data. By using the Geocoding tool in LP360, you can upgrade the LAS from 1.2 to 1.4. This gives you the ability to reduce noise, perform strip alignments, make adjustments, and provide other enhancements to achieve a better deliverable.
With the flight lines separated, Darrick demonstrates how you can apply geometric correction with Strip Align and further utilize tools for data smoothing to further reduce noise levels and match the consistency between the LiDAR survey strips.
Other features to support data processing from the DJI Zenmuse L1 include the ability for comparison and debiasing to control points, validation to check points, plus orthomosaic generation and Image Explorer for utilizing the photos collected by the L1.
